The Academic and Career Entrance (ACE) program includes the 10 courses listed above. They are offered in both a traditional classroom setting at Ontario’s 24 public colleges and online via the ACE Distance program. ACE courses are accepted as grade 12 equivalent for admission to Ontario’s public colleges (certificate and diploma programs), for apprenticeship registration, and by a growing number of employers for hiring purposes. For a list of ACE and Ontario secondary school course equivalencies, scroll down to the bottom of this page.
In addition to the ACE courses listed above, ACE Distance also offers additional courses: Learn to Learn, Writing Support, Reading Support, Communications Support, and Numeracy Support.
Learn to Learn (L2L)
is a required course for all learners who plan to register for an ACE course. The four “Support” courses are refresher courses for learners who are close to meeting the required entry scores for ACE courses, or learners who meet the required scores but would like to refresh their skills before starting an ACE course. Because ACE courses are grade 12 equivalent level, many people benefit from completing one or more Support courses first. Learn to Learn and the Support courses are offered throughout the year (usually starting each Tuesday) at no charge. To be eligible for L2L or any of the Support courses, applicants must submit the online application form and complete the SKILLSMARKER assessments as outlined on the
HOW TO APPLY
page.
For more information on the required Reading and Numeracy scores reference below, please see the
SKILLSMARKER ASSESSMENTS
page.
LEARN TO LEARN (L2L) -- REQUIREDL2L is an online learning orientation course (15 to 20 hours), and it must be successfully completed before you can register for an ACE course. L2L will help to determine if you have the necessary personal, computer and academic skills to successfully participate in ACE courses. With the assistance of your instructor, you will also develop your own learning plan to meet your goals and to ensure you are taking courses in the right order. L2L is the beginning of your access to supports, advice and encouragement that will continue throughout your ACE Distance program.
